Barbara Prammer (1954-2014) served as President of the Austrian National Council from 2006 until her death on 2 August 2014. The Social Democratic politician was the first woman to hold this office, the second-highest position in the Republic of Austria after that of the Federal President. Following her death, her coffin lay in state for two days in the Pillared Hall of the Austrian Parliament, where members of the public were able to pay their last respect.
