Evening at Fred Canyon camp site, one of my top 10 favorite camp sites on the PCT.
„Thirty-five“ from San Francisco is photographing her thru-hike with her old Olympus OM-1. The OM-1 is a 35mm single-lens reflex camera, which was introduced by Olympus in 1972. This photo was also taken with an Olympus OM-1, which is now the newest model of OM Systems (formerly Olympus) and which was introduced 50 years after the original OM-1 in 2022 as a digital mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera.
„Worth it“ from Sweden in his tent.
A worker in Camp Glenwood.
A man is servicing his Honda CRX in Tehachapi.
„Shopper“ from Spain starting into the Sierra Nevada.
Arnaud from France fills his bottles at an open water source in the Sierra Nevada. Especially on the first southern section of the Sierra Nevada water was mostly hidden under a thick layer of snow in may 2023. Hikers often had to melt water from snow, which took a lot of time and consumed a lot of gas.
A backcountry skier near South Lake Trailhead near Bishop.
„Eldorado“ from Ohio in the morning sun in the Sierra Nevada.
„Lost and Found“ from France during a cold morning in the Sierra Nevada.
A man is exercising some mountaineering skills near highway 88.

„Baby spice“ in her tent in the evening.
„Tiny bladder“ prefers a cowboy camp without tent for that night.
„Dog“ is sitting on a bridge during dinner in Northern Washington.
„Juice“ from Pennsylvania is standing next to his tent in the gorgeous mountain range of the Northern Cascades. Juice is writing a detailed hiking blog, where you can also read about this evening.
„Heiko" and „Sticks" are trying to get a 1500 kilometer hitch from Northern Washington to central California. Both have earlier arrived at the northern terminus of the PCT, but both were missing a big part of the Sierra Nevada section of the PCT, which they skipped because of the snow situation earlier that season. To finish this section and their thru hike they tried to get back to California. This kind of strategy for finishing a thru-hike is called „Flip Flop“, which was quite common in the extreme snow year of 2023.
